Our Founders’ Corner

Rev. Fr. / Major Benedicto “Benny” P. Elopre, CHS/PA, 8th Dan Okinawan Red & White Belt, is the founder and director of OSC Philippines and OSC International. Born on May 6, 1955, in Calabanga, Camarines Sur, Philippines, he showed early interest in boxing and karate, training informally with Master Juanito Piaz. He deepened his dedication to martial arts after a pivotal fight in 1966 and later trained in judo and karate, achieving several black belt ranks.

In 1973, he founded the Okinawa Shorin-Ryu Clan at Holy Rosary Regional Seminary in Naga City to promote martial arts within the clergy. He trained under Master Manny Duran, who reinstated his 3rd Dan rank after Elopre humbly started over. Over time, Elopre rose through the ranks, achieving 8th Dan in 1993. His teaching philosophy emphasizes a holistic approach, integrating spiritual, moral, intellectual, social, aesthetic, and physical growth.

Known as “The Thumb and The Last Warrior,” Elopre has established numerous Okinawa Shorin-Ryu Clan chapters in the Philippines and abroad.

Karatechesis: Combining Martial Arts and Spiritual Growth

Our unique Karatechesis program integrates discipline and physical training in martial arts with spiritual education and growth. Participants learn not only the techniques of karate but also the values of respect, humility, and self-discipline.

As Rev. Fr./Major Benedicto “Benny” P. Elopre founded the OSC, its goals are centered on the development of an individual’s good character, therefore creating good leaders of the community and of the nation. Emphasizing the following: Spiritual, Moral, Intellectual, Social, Aesthetic, and Physical (SMISAP). As he recalls it, the “holistic approach” of relationship. Our relationship with God (Vertical Line) and the relationship with our fellowmen (Horizontal Line).

Being an OSCian is not just the physical aspect of Karate, but to go deeper into the heart of it, and realize the vision, the true essence of Karatedo’s way of life.
